The Faculty of Law at Diponegoro University (UNDIP) held the second session of the Lex Proficia 2024 summer course with the theme “International Environmental Law and Climate Diplomacy.” The event took place online through Zoom Meeting and featured two speakers, H.E. Arif Havas Oegroseno and Prof. Dr. Christina Voigt, with a moderator.

Arif Havas Oegroseno, a former Indonesian Ambassador to Belgium, spoke about the role of diplomacy in addressing global environmental issues. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and commitment from all countries to tackle climate change and protect the environment. Arif Havas Oegroseno highlighted that climate diplomacy is essential for achieving strong and binding international agreements. He emphasized that this is a global challenge that requires global solutions.

Prof Voigt

In a discussion led by Prof. Dr. Christina Voigt, a leading environmental law expert, the importance of international agreements such as the Paris Agreement in addressing climate change was highlighted. Prof. Voigt stressed the need for effective implementation and enforcement of international environmental laws to achieve real results. The session, moderated by Pulung Widhi Hari Hananto, facilitated a smooth and in-depth discussion on the topic. The session included an interactive Q&A session where participants could directly ask the speakers questions. With over 100 participants from various backgrounds, including students and academics from several countries, the high attendance demonstrated a great interest and concern for environmental and climate issues. In their closing remarks, both speakers emphasized the significant role of individuals and countries in global efforts to tackle climate change. The success of the session further contributes to the goal of improving understanding and knowledge of law through the UNDIP Faculty of Law’s Lex Proficia 2024 summer course.
