Semarang, February 6, 2025 – The Faculty of Law, Diponegoro University (FH Undip) held a Faculty Work Meeting (RKF) and Workshop titled “AI Utilization in the Academic World: Ethics, Opportunities, and Challenges” at the Metro Park View Hotel Semarang. This event aimed to discuss the faculty’s work programs for the next year and the challenges and opportunities of using artificial intelligence in academia.

The event began with remarks from the Dean of FH Undip, Prof. Dr. Retno Saraswati, S.H., M.Hum., who emphasized the importance of a collective spirit in achieving faculty performance targets.

“Today, we are holding the RKF to discuss what we will do in the future. The faculty’s performance contract is already in place, and our achievements show improvement in various lines. However, we must continue to be enthusiastic about the quality of the Faculty of Law and Undip as a whole,” said Prof. Retno.

Prof. Retno also highlighted the achievements that FH Undip has achieved in the last two years, such as ranking 351 in the QS World University Rankings (WUR), ranking 301+ in the THE WUR 2025 by Subject, and being included in the top five Top Universities in Indonesia Ranked by EduRank. The faculty also won the overall champion in the 2024 Undip Performance Achievement Award, which resulted in a new operational vehicle award.

The main challenges faced include internal student problems, such as attendance jockeys, mental health, and the time to complete final assignments.

In research and service, FH Undip encourages publications in reputable journals and the submission of Intellectual Property Rights (HKI). This year’s research funding scheme includes Rp10 million for individual research and Rp20 million for collaborative research with international journal outputs.

Meanwhile, Vice Dean II, Solechan, S.H., M.H., outlined the faculty’s budget allocation and emphasized the importance of budget planning for next year’s needs. One of the new policies is the provision of incentives for students who win prizes in international and national competitions.

In the discussion session, several professors provided input on strategies to increase publication citations, promote study programs, and develop the IUP (International Undergraduate Program) program.

Prof. Yos Johan Utama, one of the professors of FH Undip, highlighted the impact of AI in the academic world. “Because of AI, students can become lazy. He said that we need strategies to maintain academic quality, such as increasing oral or comprehensive exams before graduation,” he said.

Closing the event, the Dean of FH Undip emphasized the faculty’s commitment to improving academic quality and services to students. The faculty will also continue to adapt to technological developments, including the use of AI in the academic world.

“We all have to love the Faculty of Law by sincerely working so as not to be a burden but to be a blessing and barokah,” he concluded.
