PRESS RELEASE SDGs International Community Services (ICS) Faculty of Law, Universitas Diponegoro, 2025

The Faculty of Law, Universitas Diponegoro, is organizing the SDGs International Community Services (ICS) 2025 as part of its commitment to the Tridharma and strengthening international networks. This event will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 11–12, 2025, at Kampung Batik Giriloyo, Yogyakarta, involving 50 participants, including batik artisans, village officials, and the academic community of the Faculty of Law at Diponegoro University (Undip).

This year’s ICS program focuses on a legal outreach themed “Legal Protection of Intellectual Property Rights for Batik Works,” featuring guest speaker Prof. Dr. Nazura binti Abdul Manap, a Professor from the Faculty of Law, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), specializing in Cyber Law & Intellectual Property Law. The event was designed to enhance artisans’ understanding of the importance of IPR protection, including copyright registration mechanisms, geographical indications, and strategies to combat piracy and motif imitation in batik.

The outreach is complemented by interactive discussion sessions, enabling participants to present practical issues and receive direct solutions from speakers and international academic partners. Through the ICS, Undip affirms its role in supporting Sustainable Development Goals by empowering communities through research-based initiatives. In addition to strengthening the legal capacities of local artisans, this activity opens up space for global collaboration and enriches cross-cultural experiences for the academic community. ICS 2025 is expected to be a concrete step by Undip in advancing social innovation, preserving batik as a cultural heritage, and strengthening Indonesia’s global position through the protection of intellectual property.
