Semarang, May 29, 2024 – The Faculty of Law, Diponegoro University (UNDIP) continued the Lex Proficia 2024 summer course series with the fourth session with the theme “Blue Economic Law, Climate Justice, and Sustainable Development of Governance” by presenting two expert speakers, namely Dr. Mas Achmad Santosa, S.H., LL.M., and Andreas Aditya Salim, S.H., LL.M., with moderator Anggita Doramia Lumbanraja, S.H., M.H. This event was held online through Zoom Meeting.
The first speaker, Dr. Mas Achmad Santosa, S.H., LL.M., an environmental and maritime law expert and chairman of the Indonesia Ocean Justice Initiative, delivered a presentation entitled “Reconceptualizing Environmental Law for the Anthropocene.” He explained how environmental law must adapt to the Anthropocene era, where human activities have a significant impact on the planet. “We need to reconstruct environmental law to be more responsive to the challenges of the Anthropocene era, including climate change and human-induced environmental degradation,” Dr. Santosa said. Dr. Santosa also emphasized the need for a more integrative and interdisciplinary approach in designing environmental policies and laws.
Andreas Aditya Salim, co-founder of the Indonesia Ocean Justice Initiative, discussed the latest developments in international law on ocean protection and climate change at the fourth session of the Lex Proficia 2024 summer course. The session was moderated by Anggita Doramia Lumbanraja, a lecturer at Diponegoro University’s Faculty of Law, who ensured the discussion covered each topic in depth. Over 100 participants from various countries attended the session, demonstrating a strong interest in the issues of blue economy, climate justice, and sustainable development. The active participation of the attendees highlighted the increasing awareness of the need for an integrated approach to address global environmental challenges. The session provided valuable insights and encouraged participants to continue advocating for the blue economy and climate justice within the context of sustainable development.
