The Satya Dharma Gita Student Choir of the Faculty of Law at Diponegoro University (UNDIP) has once again achieved remarkable success at the 1st Thailand International Choral Festival 2024 (TICF 2024), organized by the Thailand Choral Association at the Thailand Cultural Centre in Bangkok from September 3 to 6, 2024. At the event, the Satya Dharma Gita Choir achieved:
  1. Gold Medal & Winner in the Adult Choir Category (Final Score 89.73)
  2. Gold Medal in the Folklore Choir Category (Final Score 84.78)
  3. Jury Prize for “The Excellent Artistic Programming”
  4. Finalist for the Grand Prize TICF 2024
The festival is a prestigious choir festival as it features more than 25 choirs from various countries, such as Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines. The festival presents judges with international standards from the United States, Norway, Greece, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
At the event, the Satya Dharma Gita Choir departed with a total of 30 members led by the Head of Delegation, Amabel Jofena, accompanied by the Supervising Lecturers, Tity Wahyu, S.H., M.Hum. and Kadek Cahya Susila Wibawa, S.H., M.H. During the TICF 2024 activities, the Satya Dharma Gita Choir, conducted by FX Anggarda Tri Adhi Nugraha, competed in two categories: the folklore category and the equal adult choir category.
The Dean of the Faculty of Law at UNDIP, Prof. Dr. Retno Saraswati, S.H., M.Hum., expressed her gratitude and pride over this achievement and hopes that this accomplishment can motivate other students of the Faculty of Law at UNDIP to contribute their own achievements and bring honor to UNDIP. “Alhamdulillah, thank you for the outstanding achievement of the Satya Dharma Gita Student Choir of the Faculty of Law. May this achievement inspire and motivate other students to be more creative and enthusiastic in learning, developing themselves, honing their skills, and be encouraged to participate in other prestigious competitions and successfully contribute achievements for UNDIP,” said Prof. Retno.
Kadek Cahya Susila Wibawa, S.H., M.H. expressed immense gratitude, as despite the limitations in human resources and funding, the Satya Dharma Gita Choir continues to demonstrate its existence, to create, and to achieve at the international level. Furthermore, it was conveyed that this achievement complements the accomplishments of students from the Faculty of Law at Diponegoro University, which also supports the attainment of the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) of the Faculty of Law at UNDIP through non-academic student achievements. The achievements of the SDG Choir at the TICF 2024 event complement the same accomplishments achieved by the SDG Choir at the Bali International Choir Festival 2023 and the 32nd Praga Cantat 208 in the Czech Republic.
Amabel Jofena explained that participating in this competition not only aims to achieve accomplishments but also benefits the development of students’ soft skills. Through training and organizational processes, this activity indirectly hones students to be disciplined, prioritize effectively, foster teamwork, manage emotions, enhance lobbying skills, engage in active communication, and much more. Semarang, August 30, 2024 – The Faculty of Law at Undip once again held a visiting lecturer event conducted online via Zoom Meeting on Friday, August 30, 2024. On this occasion, the Faculty of Law at Undip proudly presents Associate Prof. Dr. Ruzian Markom, LL.B., LL.M., an Associate Professor in Business Law from the Faculty of Law, National University of Malaysia. (UKM). He presented an interesting topic, “The Development of Islamic Financial Law in Malaysia.”

More than 100 students and lecturers attended this event. Prof. Ruzian discussed in depth the development of Islamic financial law in Malaysia, particularly in the context of business and Islamic banking. He also provided insights into the role of Islamic law in supporting financial stability in Malaysia, as well as the challenges faced in the implementation of Islamic financial regulations in this modern era.
In the question-and-answer session, students had the opportunity to engage in direct discussion with Prof. Ruzian, who elaborated on the importance of understanding Islamic financial law for law students who will enter the professional world, both in the public and private sectors. Not only did Prof. Ruzian provide theoretical insights, but he also shared his practical experiences in handling business cases related to Islamic financial law.
This event is part of the efforts of the Faculty of Law at Undip to continuously enrich students’ knowledge in various fields of international law while also broadening their understanding of legal practices in neighboring countries.

Opening Ceremony of PKKMB and Character Education of Faculty of Law Undip 2024

The PKKMB and Character Education of the Diponegoro University Faculty of Law for the year 2024 opened today, Monday, August 12, 2024, in front of the Prof. Dr. Satjipto Rahardjo, S.H. building. The purpose of the Campus Life Introduction for New Students program, sometimes referred to as PKKMB and Character Education (Pendikar), is to acquaint new students with the campus and get them ready for the academic atmosphere of a university. The Character Education activities will take place over three days, from August 14 to 16, 2024, in the Faculty of Humanities at Undip. The PKKMB will take place over two days, on August 12 and 13, 2024.

Today’s event was attended by 1,213 new students of the Faculty of Law at Undip for the year 2024 in a hybrid format. The opening ceremony of PKKMB and Pendikar was inaugurated by the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Undip, Prof. Dr. Retno Saraswati, S.H., M.Hum., by striking the gavel three times. Continuing with the PMB report by the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, Dr. Aditya Yuli Sulistyawan, S.H., M.H. “Welcome to all new students at the Faculty of Law, Undip, for the year 2024.” The number of new students from the undergraduate program is 870 students (regular 793 students, IUP 26 students, S1 Jepara 51 students), Master of Notary Law 181 students, Master of Law 119 students, and Doctor of Law 43 students.

“Graduates with a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Undip can work anywhere and are in high demand in society.” “All programs at the Faculty of Law, Diponegoro University are accredited as Excellent. It is hoped that students from the Faculty of Law, Diponegoro University can graduate quickly and secure jobs promptly, but they must continue to uphold universal values, possess good moral integrity, and be trustworthy,” stated the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Diponegoro University in his speech. The Vice Deans, Chair and Secretary of the Senate, Chair and Secretary of the Study Programs, Heads of Departments, Administrative Managers, and Supervisors were also introduced by the Dean.

The ceremonial process of welcoming new students to the Faculty of Law at Undip for the 2024/2025 Academic Year, represented by students from each study program, was marked by the symbolic handing over of the alma mater jackets and the draping of co-cards by the Dean of the Faculty of Law. The symbolic opening of the PKKMB and Pendikar activities was conducted by the Dean, accompanied by the Vice Deans, the Senate Chair, and the Heads of Study Programs, who opened a scroll and planted it. The event continued with the screening of a video congratulating the new students and a video introducing Begawan Hukum FH Undip Prof. Dr. Satjipto Rahardjo, S.H. Each Head of Department introduced their respective lecturers, followed by a joint prayer led by Mr. Suhartoyo, S.H., M.H.

On May 30, 2024, the eighth session of the Lex Proficia 2024 series of activities was successfully held online through the Zoom platform. Themed “International Fisheries and Marine Sustainability”, the event featured prominent speaker, Dr. Tamara Joan Duraisingam, LL.B., LL.M., who discussed the fishing industry in Malaysia and Australia and the relevant aspects of fisheries law. Dr. Tamara Joan Duraisingam began her presentation with “To fish or not to fish? A tale of two nations”. She outlined the challenges faced by the fishing industries in Malaysia and Australia, including overfishing, climate change, and marine pollution. Dr. Tamara explained how these two countries are implementing policies and regulations to sustainably manage their fisheries resources.

Furthermore, Dr. Tamara elaborated on the legal framework governing the fishing industry in Malaysia and Australia. She discussed the various laws and regulations implemented to protect marine ecosystems and ensure sustainable fishing practices. Case examples and field studies were also included to provide a real picture of how fisheries law is applied in practice. Dr. Tamara emphasized the need for countries to work together in the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU fishing), as well as the importance of sustainable management of marine resources for the future of our planet.

The event concluded with a productive Q&A session, where Dr. Tamara provided comprehensive and in-depth answers to every question posed. The moderator then closed the event by thanking Dr. Tamara and all participants for their active participation. The moderator also reminded about the importance of continuous discussion to achieve the desired ocean sustainability goals. The eighth session of Lex Proficia 2024 successfully opened new insights and provided a deeper understanding of the relationship between international fisheries law and ocean sustainability.

The first session was presented by Dr. A. Vijayalakshmi Venugopal, a lecturer from Taylor’s University Malaysia who discussed the topic “Animal Stereotypes”. Dr. Vijayalakshmi elaborated on how animal stereotypes can affect legal decision-making and policies implemented. She highlighted various cases where these stereotypes have negatively impacted animal protection and advocated for a more fair and scientifically based approach to the law.

Dr. Jane Kotzman of Deakin University in Australia presented on the topic of animals and the triple planetary crisis in the second session of the Lex Proficia 2024 event. She discussed the interrelated crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution and emphasized the role of animals in ecosystems and the impact of these crises on them. Dr. Kotzman urged participants to recognize the connection between global environmental issues and animal welfare and stressed the need for comprehensive legal action to address these crises. Over 70 participants from various backgrounds and neighboring countries engaged in an interactive discussion, demonstrating a high level of interest and concern. The session concluded with a moderator thanking the speakers and participants and expressing hopes that the discussion would inspire ongoing efforts to advocate for improved laws for the environment and animals. Semarang, May 30, 2024 – The Faculty of Law, Diponegoro University (UNDIP) continued the series of Lex Proficia 2024 summer courses with the sixth session with the theme “International Investment Law, Trade, and Environmental.” This event was held online and presented Dr. Ivana Damjanovic, LL.B., LL.M., from the University of Canberra, Australia as the main speaker. This session was hosted by Rahandy Rizki Prananda, S.H., M.H., lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Diponegoro University.

Dr. Ivana Damjanovic, gave an insightful presentation on “International Investment Law, and Climate Action.” She explained the basic concepts of international investment law and investment dispute settlement (ISDS) mechanisms, and how they can be used to support climate action. “International investment law and ISDS are often perceived as barriers to climate action, but can actually be effective tools to encourage green investment and ensure the environmental responsibility of investors,” said Dr. Damjanovic. The moderator facilitated an interactive Q&A session, giving participants the opportunity to have a direct dialogue with Dr. Damjanovic and ask questions related to international investment law issues and climate action.

The session was attended by more than 70 participants from various backgrounds, including students, and academics from several countries such as malaysia, and australia.
